The term 'energy', when applied to energy manipulation, is fairly undefined. Up until this point in Metaphysics, energy has just been a term used to represent something everything is made up of. Recent research has only made the concept even more confusing. Let's go through a number of theories from multiple standpoints.

[edit] Energy: Natural Sciences
Energy, as defined in modern sciences, is "the capacity of a system to do work.[1]" That definition is very general, and does not help us much. However, we can work with it. Let's dig into this a little bit deeper. If you have gotten into Chemistry, you will recall Potential Energy and Kinetic Energy. Potential energy is stored energy, while kinetic energy is the result of motion. If you push something, that is kinetic energy. Heat is another example of energy, which is measure in joules. The list could go on forever - there are just too many types of energy in science to choose from. We may not be able to use them as a sold definition for energy in Metaphysics, but we can use it as a guideline.
[edit] Energy: Electromagnetism
During research here at The Otherkin Community, we explored the possibility that Energy Manipulation could be possible via the Nervous System[2]. If this is the case, then what we know to be 'energy' would in fact be electrons. For example, moving an object with Telekinesis would simply be pushing it by means of an Electromagnetic Field. That may provide an explanation for certain abilities, but what about other abilities such as Pyrokinesis, which deals with heat? Clearly, if energy manipulation allowed for this ability as well, energy can not be defined as electrons.
[edit] Energy: A General Term
So that brings us back to square one. It appears that energy is not a term in its own; rather, it is a general description holding a hierarchy of terms. Perhaps there is one solid definition for "energy" - the foundation of our universe. However, when dealing with Energy Manipulation, at least on a physical level, that is not the case. We do not manipulate energy on that basic level. That would be far too complex. It is much easier to take the shortcut and use the tools already available to us: our bodies.
[edit] Types of Energy
Throughout the years, five (5) major energy types have surfaced. It is currently unknown exactly what makes these energy types "different", in respect to light/dark[3]; however they should be mentioned due to their wide usage. The concept is that different races are composed of different "types" of energy. This energy is beneficial to that races, and they thrive off of it. Other types of energy may be harmful to the race, or may not provide such a positive effect. For example, Humans are known to have a 'light' energy type. Angels are known to have a 'Holy' energy type. Vampires and shadows, on the other hand, are known to have a 'dark' or 'chaos' energy type.
[3]There are three general groups of energies, as shown below. The subgroups are generally interchangeable. For example, a 'holy' being should not have a problem absorbing light energy, but a 'light' being, though they may be able to absorb holy energy to an extent, might experience some negative effects before their body adapts to the more aggressive energy type. Neutral energy seems to cooperate with all other energy types. However, opposite energy types (light/dark) do not go well together; those that absorb opposing energy types may experience negative health effects, among others.
[edit] Light Energies
Light energy is the most common energy on Earth[3]; it is the foundation of everything you see around you. Though there may be mixes, as is expected because Otherkin too inhabit this planet, light energy is the most dominant. Therefore, Humans are light beings. There are two different types of light energies you should be familiar with:
- Light - A general energy; humans are light beings
- Holy - A more energetic form of light energy; has a more tingly and sometimes prickly feeling to light beings[3].
[edit] Dark Energies
Beings with dark energy are commonly referred to as 'evil' because of the negative feeling light beings receive from them[4]. This is expected among an almost entirely light world, but is not the case. Dark energies are thicker feeling[3], and are favored by races such as vampires and shadows. There are two main types of dark energies:
- Dark - A general energy; "opposite" of light
- Chaos - A more energetic form of dark energy; feels much thicker than dark energy [3]
[edit] Neutral Energies
Neutral energies cooperate with all the other energy types. They do not seem to harm or benefit light/dark beings[3]. They are not as common in Otherkin, but do exist in certain, less noted races.
[edit] General Energy Types
In addition to light/dark energies, there are three other basic energy types (each of which can be light/dark) that you should also become aware of. These energy types the energy's use and origin. It does not describe the construction of the energy. They feel different because of the way they are used. For example, a ball of energy will feel more concentrated then a thin sheet of energy that more closely resembles a mist.
- Psi - Energy used by thought; when you visualize forming a ball of energy, it is psi energy. Psi energy is used all the time subconsciously. It is very easy to "program" simply because whatever you think, you cause the energy to do. The "strength" of this energy depends on your concentration.
- Ki/Chi - Ki (also called "Chi") represents energy from animate (living) objects. You contain Ki. The tree outside contains Ki. The grass, birds, animals, they all contain Ki. Anything that is living has this type of energy.
- Mana - Mana is the opposite of Ki. Mana is from inanimate (non-living) object. Your chair, desk, walls - they contain mana. However, you will notice that certain objects (such as your computer) that have a lot of activity (usually electricity flowing through it) feel as though they have Ki. At this point, it's difficult to determine whether or it that should be referred to as Ki or Mana. (Discuss)

From here, you may decide to get into Energy Manipulation. If that is the case, you may want to read the introductory article Introduction To Energy Manipulation, a beginner's guide to energy manipulation. It will cover the fundamentals that you will need to understand for future attempts at energy manipulation. Note that this article is a prerequisite, so you should understand this content before you explore that tutorial.
With energy manipulation, the applications are nearly infinite. Given the proper training, knowledge, and skill, you will be able to do many things. The content on this site only scratches the surface - the implications are far too massive to discuss here. However, this gives you an excellent starting point that will last you the majority of your life. However, do not go into energy manipulation with the assumption that you will be able to do whatever you want. That is not the case. Do not expect to be able to levitate and throw objects around the room in a week. Many have trained for years and can not come close to that. Start slow with low expectations and work your way up.
