Energy:Good vs. Evil
From The Otherkin Community
What is your first impression when you think of "Light" and "Dark" energy? Most likely, you think of light as a positive thing. There are a number of positive phrases you hear all the time with 'light' such as "step into the light", "follow the light", "guiding light", etc. But what do you think about dark? Most people think negatively. "The darkness in your heart", "dark man" - even darkness itself isn't very appealing to most people.
It is because of that modern thinking that people make the assumption that "Light" energy is good, and "Dark" energy is bad. Let's explore some of those reasons, and see that no race or energy can have the label "good" or "evil".

[edit] Symbolism
We spoke briefly of symbolism above. However, the view was bias to popular culture. Such views are not shared by all parts of the world. In fact, in some areas, it is completely opposite[1]. Let us first take a look at the common views of Black.
[edit] Black (Negative)
- Black Thursday - Stock market crash
- Black Comedy - Comedy dealing with morbid thoughts
- Black Magic - "Evil" magic associated with death
- Blacklist - A list of undesirable people
- Blackmail - Illegal and immoral
- Black Death - Pandemic in Europe that killed tens of millions of people
Odd, isn't it? Most notable, for some of our members, may be the "Black Magic" term in the above list. It's odd because...a synonym for it is "Magick", which in our eyes, is not a bad thing. It could be good, or bad. What point am I getting at? It's all matter of opinion. Let's now take a look at certain cultures where black is considered to be a positive thing.
[edit] Black (Positive)
- Rain Clouds - A symbol of life in the Maasai tribes
- Kuro - In Japanese culture, kuro (black) is the symbol of nobility, age, and experience[1].
- Black Watch - British infantry regiment
- Authority - Black is sometimes seen as a color of authority, such as on police cars in the United States and other countries
[edit] White (Positive)
Now it's time to explore the color white. White is usually depicted with a very positive connotation in western culture, which activists and race theorists associate with western racism[2]. Let's explore some examples:
- White signifies pureness and innocence in English heraldry
- Associated with humor
- In many religions, white depicts a holy or positive entity
- A white flag is a sign of peace
- White ribbons denounce violence against women
- A white dress is a symbol of purity in western weddings
[edit] White (Negative)
Chances are when you think of white, and try to think of something negative about the color, these usually don't come to mind:
- Whiteouts occur during snowstorms when visibility is minimal
- Associated with the color of ghosts
- In Chinese and Indian traditions, white is associated with death
- Whitewash means to cover up something with lies. It also is the action of burying someone's head in the snow as a form of harassment.
[edit] Energy Tolerance
Another cause of this assumption could be the fact that dark energy is the opposite of light energy. The majority of Earth naturally consists of light beings[3], and light beings do not like dark energy. It is only nature (and instinct) to reject dark beings in an entirely (not anymore) light world.
[edit] Matter of Opinion
When saying that all of one race is either good or evil, you are implying that out of the entire race, not a single one has a different opinion than the others. That is very unlikely. Take, for example, humans. Even among each other, there are plenty of disagreements. To say that all "demons" are bad is like saying all humans are good. That illogical, and is not true.
Good and evil are also defined by opinion. For example, people in Iraq think it is good to kill Americans because it will get them into heaven. However, Americans see it as evil. Two completely different opinions.
