Garuda (Divine birdman of Indian myth)

Like so much else in Indian myth,Garuda was a complex figure whose name meant different things to different people.Few,however, doubted his importance, for he played a central role in Hinduism as Vishnu's mount, carrying the great god through the air on his back.A purana-Sanskrit sacred book- bore his name,as did one of the Upanishads(holy texts) of the Muktika canon.
