Ideomotor Response
From The Otherkin Community
The ideomotor response is the subconscious movement resulting from a thought. When you think of something, your body reacts. This phenomenon has been attributed to a number of paranormal occurrences such as psychic writing and the Ouija board. This is also the basis for certain exercises such as Psychophysiological Thought Reading, also known as Contact Telepathy.
Here is an example: Think about the nearest door. When you do so, you think of the direction the door is in and inadvertently turn toward that direction. It is very slight and chances are you did not notice. If you focus on this, you can feel it. This is the ideomotor response. You can also try another exercise to feel the effects of this response. Focus on your fingers. Imagine them slowly closing, but do not actually close them. Hold them open. After a little bit, you should feel a tingling sensation, and it should feel almost as if your fingers are closing, even though they are not. Now stop holding them open, but keep imagining them closing. They will close.
That tingling sensation is also the foundation of research being conducted on Energy Manipulation as well as Energy itself[1]. Some may notice that this sensation feels exactly like the energetic sensation experienced when manipulating energy.

[edit] Exercise: Testing the Ideomotor Response
Interested readers may further test the ideomotor response through the following exercise.
[edit] Materials
In order to perform this exercise, you will need the following materials:
- An object or objects adding up to around 1 lb (about 0.5 kg). (CDs, coins with a hole in the middle, anything with a hole through which you can thread a string).
- Some string, about the length of your arm. May be as thick, so long as you can thread it through the object.
[edit] Preparation
- Thread the string through the object and hold it by both ends, so that the object (hereby referred to as "the pendulum") can freely swing.
- Hold the pendulum about 6 inches from your hand, not too much further. It may help to keep your palm face up when holding, and let the extra string dangle off of the other side.
[edit] The Exercise
- Hold the pendulum over some type of object with recognizable divisions. For example, a keyboard, checker board, paper with numbers written on it, a book, etc. For this example, since you are most likely at a computer, we will use a keyboard as an example.
- Keep your hand steady, and think of one of the keys on your keyboard.
- As you think of the key, you should automatically think of its position. The pendulum will slowly start to swing in the direction of that key.
- Imagine another key; the pendulum should change directions and swing in the direction of that key.
[edit] Explanation
When you think of the key, you subconsciously move toward that direction. However, you are trying to keep your hand still at the same time. Therefore, your hand moves toward that direction, then you move it back into place. That results in a swinging motion in the direction you are thinking of.
