Approval Conditions
To be considered for approval, your group/organization must:
- Pertain to the topics presented by The Otherkin Community,
- Be an educational or scientific group/organization,
- Be non-profit, or dedicated to helping others without financial gain, and
- Not attempt to influence or alter individuals' beliefs.
If the group/organization is educational, it must:
- Convey factual information,
- Produce no false information for the purpose of propaganda or deception, and
- Convey theoretical or unproven sciences, practices and other information as theory, not fact.
If the group/organization teaches the practice of an art or science (including any metaphysical topics), it must:
- Make a clear distinction between theory and established facts,
- Be able to provide evidence and independantly reproducable experiments for any alleged facts that are not "common knowledge" in a mature science,
- Provide procedure for the reproduction of any experiments producing such evidence,
- Fully educate the inividual on the implications or risks of any exercise performed by the individaul or done unto the individual, and
- Gain consent from the individual before any experiment or practice is done unto an individual.
If the group/organization contains information based primarily off of belief, it must:
- Clearly state that the provided information is based primarily off of belief and should be considered, but not taken as fact, and
- Clearly state any sources of information that provide a foundation for the statement, theory or belief.
Acceptance & Limitations
If approved, §1.3.3 of the Rules & Regulations will be lifted for your group/organization and those representing it, and the approved persons will be permitted to advertise their group and request that interested individuals join, subject to the following limitations:
- The mentioning/advertising of the group/organization must not hinder discussion and must be balanced between constructive discussion.
- Individuals may create their own thread within The Otherkin Community Forums about the group/organization, but they may not "hijack" existing threads; only brief mentions are allowed in other threads. If discussion of the group/organization causes another thread to deviate from the original topic, the individaul is responsible for asking that it be discussed in private or be taken to another thread.
- The authorized person(s) may not "spam" advertisements on any of the Community services. Advertising must be restricted to (a) a single thread within The Otherkin Community Forums, (b) a link in the Links section of The Otherkin Community Forums, (c) brief mentions in threads or other discussions, such as chats, and (d) a link in certain wiki articles in a "Links" section at the bottom of the page.
Notes
What if my group/organization is both scientific and educational?
Educational groups/organizations' goals deal primarily with the dissemination of information rather than the actual research. For example, The Otherkin Community, Inc. deals a great deal with scientific material, and does some research, but the primary goals of the Community are educational.
What if my group/organization does not fit either the scientific or educational classifications?
If your group or organization does not fit either classification, then The Otherkin Community is not the place to advertise or further the goals of the group/organization.
My group/organization is non-profit, but charges for certain services. Will I still be considered?
If your group/organization charges for services, you must be registered as a 501(c)(3) non-profit charity to show that your paid services will not be used in any way other than to further your charitable purposes. If your group/organization exists outside of the United States, it must have equivalent non-profit status within its country.
